Ok, So It's A School Night...

Thursday was just another day at school. The grade 5's were still doing their level tests, so my days moved by pretty quickly and pretty smoothly. After school I had to head to the Arts Center area for a coffee and chit chat with a Korean friend and then I headed back to Yeonsu to have dinner with Tracy and Nick. Chris ended up joining us and we agreed on Shabu Shabu. The four of us also decided we wanted to have a few drinks with dinner, so we ordered some beers and soju with cider. Everytime Tracy and I hang out with Nick and Chris together it is such a gong show. Those two are crazy when they get together, which is why we love them so much. Anyways, we drank, ate and had great conversation. You can always count on Chris and Nick to make you laugh even when you are down. It is impossible not to be in a good mood when you are around them. After dinner we didn't quite want to end the good times, so Tracy offered for us to go back to her place and enjoy some free soju. Well, soju is like music to most people's ears, but the fact that it's free just makes it irresistable. This is when things got ugly and by ugly I mean we drank more soju than anticipated and had a full out dance party in Tracy's apartment before we decided on a whim to go hit up a noraebang. Left: Nick and Chris rocking out to tunes in Tracy's apartment. Right: Me wearing the fabulous glasses Tracy bought. I deserved my own Kodak moment.
You don't really to go far to find a noraebang in Korea. They are pretty much on every street corner, so Nick us took us to one nearby that he knew of that was relatively cheap. We paid 15 000 won for an hour of singing. We were a little disappointed that they didn't have as great of a song selection as most other noraebangs, but we survived. The hour flew by with us singing everything from Oasis to Mr. Big to Take That to Spice Girls. Tracy and I opted for singing the really cheesy pop songs from circa 1992 - 1995. Chris and Nick opted to sing more manly songs, which mostly consisted of rock songs. However, Chris did attempt to serenade me to 'I Swear' and then Nick got involved and from there the soju pretty much took over and the song...well...let's just say it wasn't worth remembering ;) It really is the thought that counts though, so thank you Chris, I know you meant well. Left: Tracy and I at noraebang taking a break between songs. Right: Chris serenading me to 'I Swear'...I look scared, but my expression is worse than his singing actually was.
Once our hour was up we weren't quite ready to leave, so we decided if we wanted to pay for another hour. We were ready to pay when I noticed that we had been given an extra half an hour, so we decided to continue to sing. It's amazing how much fun noraebang can be when you drink beer and soju and get into the music. Well, we continued to sing our faces off and drink beer and then our free thirty minutes turned into another free thirty minutes they gave us, so there was really no escaping the noraebang. The good thing is noraebang here is actually a lot of fun because you get your own private room where you can drink, eat snacks they provide you and smoke (if that is what you like), plus there are tamborines, which lit up at the noraebang we went to. Also, you get graded on your singing, which seems bad, but I have yet to see anyone get below 90%, so if you are a bad singer and some of you know you are than have no fear. However, that still doesn't make you a good singer it's just being nice :) Left: Nick and Chris rocking out to God knows what. Right: Tracy and I singing away to some cheesy pop song, I'm sure of it.
After the second free thirty minutes we decided we had enough, so we headed over to Far From Home to hang out with some friends that were there. It was already after 1:00 a.m. and Tracy, Nick and I had to teach in the morning, so we decided to say quick 'Hello's' and then head home for the night. Although we drank on a school night it was a lot of fun and it will probably happen again before my year is up. I blame the late night on Tracy because she is the one who offered free soju to us at her place...just kidding, but only a little.
