Wolmi Island
Today was a great day aside from the fact that I was running on five hours of sleep because of my late night on Friday and because my head cold was in full force. I had to be up at 12:30 p.m. for a lunch date with Jiny and Yong Seong at 1:00 p.m. It was hard to wake-up, but I had taken some Cold-Fx and was ready to go. Yong Seong paid for lunch which was absolutely delicious. I think I can get use to the whole Korean food thing, as long as it’s dead. They even served free ice cream at this restaurant for us to enjoy after our meals. Yong Seong then drove us to Wolmi Island in Jung-gu, another part of Incheon. We just cruised up and own the pier.
Yong Seong took Jiny and I into the amusement that they have there to show us this one ride. The guy that works the ride is standing in the center of it and he does crazy tricks on the ride while it is moving. He was bouncing off the railings and jumping in the air. He managed to land on his feet every time. While we were watching this ride the guy that was in the control booth noticed me in the audience and of course, I didn’t understand anything because he started talking about me in Korean. Jiny was like, “You” and points to the ride and I was like. “No thanks, I don’t want to go on it today.” She was like no, “He talk about you.” Then I was like great, “I look like shit and I now having every Korean there looking at me while he talks to me. Great! Here’s our conversation:
Man: Where you from, America ?
I started to laugh.
Me: No, Canada
Man: Gana?
Me: No!
Man: Canadian?
Me: Yes.
I was started to get embarrassed because I was yelling and hoping that he could here me over the nose of the ride and the people at the park.
Man: My name is… (I honestly have no idea what he said because I couldn’t hear him)
Me: Hi!
Then Jiny was giggling because she thought it was funny that this man picked me out of the crowd and was embarrassing me.
Then Yong Seong wanted to play a carnival game, which by the way, lined the pier and were all in doors. He paid for the three of us to shoot darts at balloons and try to pop them. Out of the 10 darts I threw I missed hitting two balloons. Jiny and Yong Seong let me have the prize, which is an adorable orange pig that says Lucky on his bum. Pigs are a sign of luck in Korea, so that is why they were giving them away as prizes and why he was branded with Lucky on his bum.
Then Yong Seong bought Jiny and each a corn snack that looked like an umbrella or very large candy cane.
He was treating us girls to everything on Saturday. We just spent the afternoon walking along the pier taking loads of pictures of each other; only some are on this blog and enjoying each others company.
It was kind of a chilly day and I was sick, so I tried to make the best of it. Jiny also told me that if I was sick on Monday to call her and tell her and I could just stay home. How nice is she? That made me feel better, but I will be going to school, Julia doesn’t take sick days ever, unless I’m actually dying.
After we were done at the pier we decided to go foe some tea, which is so insanely popular in Korea. We went to this amazing restaurant 5 minutes from my apartment called Nostalgia and enjoyed $6.00 cups of tea. They were so worth the price because the tea was made from actual tea leaves and filtered through the pot right at your table. Here is a picture of the teapot and the leaves that made the extraordinary tea.
The restaurant was so nice inside with trees and chairs you would find in a castle and the view was truly amazing as well.
Jiny told me the view was even better at night, which I can believe because Korea is so well lit at night, it’s like Vegas in that respect.
The picture on the left is a zoomed in view of Song-do, which is the area where my school is. Even though I had the worst head cold the day was really fun and I didn’t pay for anything. Jiny and Yong Seong paid for everything. All day though they kept asking me if I was ok and if I needed to go to the hospital; in Korea they call the ‘Doctor’s Office’ the hospital.
Once Yong Seong and Jiny dropped me off at home I took a nap and then went over to another part of Yeonsu to meet up and have dinner with Jenn. She is from Florida and she brought her adorable dog Bailey with her to Korea. It was raining and I had no umbrella, but Jenn was nice enough to share hers with men. We went for dinner at Outback Steakhouse and I had my first steak in a long time for dinner. We talked to this adorable 6 year old Korean boy who couldn’t stop staring at us and coming over to watch us in our section of the restaurant. His mom brought him over and he introduced himself to us and we tried having a conversation, but he didn’t speak great English or understand us fully, so it was hard. After dinner we went to Lotte Mart and bought some household items we both needed. The greatest part of Lotte Mart was the dollar section. Everything I bought except my mat was under $2. I even purchased an umbrella for 2,000 won, and it is fabulous. When we were done shopping we headed over to Jenn’s place and chilled and then we took Bailey for a walk and got a $0.40 ice cream cone from McDonalds. Then we headed back up to Jenn’s apartment, finished eating our cones and headed out. We were both very tired from Friday night. Sleep was in order for the both us.
I didn’t wake up until about 1:00 p.m. today because Sundays are just my lazy days. I have to get up early to go to school on Monday morning, so staying out late Sundays isn’t an option for me. I get loads done on Sundays though, well basically I watch TV shows, movies, cook, clean, do laundry, sleep and update my blog and face book. I would call that productive for a lazy day.

Yeah. so I'm back.... Where do I start? First of all, wehn I started reading this post all I could do was laugh a little that you drove to Wolmi island because I remember your previous post about the crazy drivers and how this is common place. Then I saw that one picture of Song do or whatever that was and OMG there are a lot of cars in that pic. I guess that gives me a tiny glimpse as to the amount of people there - YIKES. It really puts things into perspective. What else... oh, that guy bouncing around on the ride sound like he is part cat always landing on his feet- psycho! Also that guy embrassassing you near that ride is too funny because I can just picture you sleep deprived and a little hung over and a head cold. Plus your friends constantly asking you if you want to go to the hospital, you must think " how shitty do I really look?" Then this carnie draws attention to you with no shower, no makeup, a big red nose, bags under your eyes, BO and bad breath.. nice. you: Yes everyone, I am the tallest one here, and yes in case you are wondering... all canadians look like death all the time. thanks for asking.
One good thing is that you are constantly getting spoiled... sweet.
OMG that was the greatest post ever because that about wrapped me up in a nutshell, but I did use deoderant. I was the tallest for sure and the only white. I always do the "OMG, I'm white...How the hell did that happen?" Only because people stare all the time, so I act like a total douchebag. I didn't drive, Yong Seong did.
