"We Be Good Friends?"

Friday, was another boring and lazy day at school. It was white day in Korea, so the males give females gifts. I got some chocolate and mints, which were good, but if they keep giving me all these treats at school everyday I'm going to weigh 200lbs. On my way to the office three sixth graders joined Mrs. Kim and I in the elevator and one girl talked to me. Here is our conversation: Girl: Hello Me: Hello Girl: How are you? Me: Good. How are you? Girl: Fine, thank you. Then her two friends start giggling because she was brave enough to talk to the "white girl." Then Mrs. Kim and I laughed because it was funny how embarassed and scared they are too talk to me. I did absolutely nothing all day. I joined in on the usually morning meeting, of which I understood nothing and then used the internet for a bit and then talked to Park Jung-Su the 5th grade englush teacher for pretty much the rest of the day. She is my age, so she wanted to meet me and talk to me and she asked if her and I could be good friends. I was like, that was bold, but sure. Koreans are just like then around foreigners. Here is my favorite conversation we had: Jung-Su: I think we be good friends. Me: Ok Jung-Su: You want to be good friends with me? Me: Um, sure. (thinking in my head, is this girl for real?) Jung-Su: You have pretty face (pause). You have small head. I envy you. Me: (awkward giggle), Thanks. Jung-Su: My friends envy me cause I know foreigner who teach me english. Me: (giggle again). This was the conversation that normally would have me rolling on the ground laughing, but I didn't that appropriate at school in front of the Korean teachers. Basically, I spent all day teaching her english words. She also asked me to come over to her house for dinner one day. I was like ok, and she freaked out, she was like, "really!" Um, yeah, really. Then she wouldn't stop talking about that for about half an hour. She really is the cutest little thing and I mean little. I think she weighs like 110lbs. She can be irritating with all her questions, but I know she just wants to know about me and learn english better. She also told me she would take me clubbing, karaokeing (don't think that is a word, so I'm making it one), and show me around to some places. I was like cool, and again she was shocked I agreed to this. At the end of the day, I sat through a meeting with all the english teachers to discuss my schedule for next week. Again, this meeting was in Korean and Mrs. Kim would translate anything I need to respond to. About 45 minutes later we came to the conclusion that I would observe every grade 4 and 5 english class next week and spend the first 5 minutes introducing myself to the class and the last part of the class playing a game with the students. Yeah, how fun for me, but I just do what I'm told. Lunch on Friday was good. I had rice, of course, some sweet glazed things that looked like pretzels, baked salmon and my absolute favorite, kimchi soup. I didn't take any of the cabbage kimchi for lunch and I think I offended Jiny and Jung-Su because Jung-Su asked me on the walk back to the office after lunch why I didn't take any. I was like, oh, I just didn't feel like kimchi today, which was a total lie, I just can't get use to it. However, starting Monday I will just take all the food and eat a bite of the gross food, just to not offend them. After school, Jiny took me to the bank to get a bank card and show me how to use the bank machine. Then we went to E-mart to get pictures taken for my hospital visit when I didn't have any, she paid for them. Then we bought me some household supplies I needed, which Jiny also paid for because it's part of what the school provides. Then she drove me home.
