Indonesia: Gili Trawangan!

Gili Trawangan was a far dirtier Island than we had anticipated, but it was easy to get over when you associated with the local Islanders and enjoyed it for its relaxed no cares in the world nature. When we arrived we looked for the hostel we were staying at, which was at the end of a long ass road, but we were only paying $8/night for the room, so we couldn't complain. However, the room only had a fan and it was way too hot to stay in for a long period of time. We ended up napping for good portion of the day before heading out to see what the Island had to offer. We saw a lot during our walk around the main part of the Island.
First thing we saw, some local boys swimming naked in the ocean. This may qualify as inapproproate, I'm not sure...lol, but it was just too adorable not to document. I mean, who really needs a swimsuit, anyways?!?! This little girl was a gem and she loved her little tub bath/swimming pool. We saw her in passing and her mom noticed us taking her picture and told the little girl, so she decided to blow us a kiss. She melts my heart. Not only did the Island have adorable swimming naked boys and an adorable girl in a tub to offer, but it provided us with a monkey tied to a tree. It broke my heart that this monkey had no freedom and the leash was tied, so high it could literally go no where. Our first night on Gili T, we ate a delicious BBQ at Tir Na Nog Irish Pub. We got to choose the fish we wanted BBQ'd and the side dish to accompany it, plus, free salad bar. The food was delicious. We then headed to a bar that would soon become our local hangout on Gili T. It was called Sama Sama and every night they have a live reggae band called, S2B that plays there. The band is really good, but the strawberry daquiri's are even better :)
We managed to catch the Barrack Obama inaugaration live on CNN back at the Irish Bar we had dinner at. It was 1:00 a.m., but Heidi is from America, so it was important to her and I'm proud he's the new president, so I wanted to hear his speech, which was Phenomenal! It also allowed us to spend some time with the local guys that worked at the bar, so it was a fun experience.
The next day Heidi and I wanted to see the other end of the Island, so we headed out for a walk that had disasterous effects on me...You are just going to have to wait to see what the effect was. In the meantime...
Here is the beautiful beach we found on the other side of the Island. It wasn't nearly as busy and it was just gorgeous. I could have easily stayed there all day and done nothing, it was so relaxing to look at such a blue sky and ocean. We don't get these in Korea or where I'm from in Canada. Korea follows me every where I go. I can't seem to get over the "V" sign when I take pictures. This is where the disater starting to get me. What beach wouldn't be complete without goats? No biggie. There are just some goats around. The kids in Indonesia were way too adorable and I had to take pictures every chance I got. Heidi and enjoyed some Indian style food for lunch. I managed to make it through my meal almost curry free. There were hints of curry, but I survived and the meal was actually quite delicious.
We wanted to catch the sunset on the Island, so we showered, changed and took a tuk tuk, which was horse-drawn to the spot on the Island you watch the sunset. We sat above the water, looked out into the ocean and enjoyed a beer.
There are no words to describe how beautiful and breathtaking the sunset was. I'm really glad we got to enjoy it. There had to be a picture with me and the sunset for your viewing pleasure. I think this is my favorite picture of the sunset. There is just something about this picture that is so amazing!
