Indonesia: The Beginning!

My two week winter vacation had me flying off to the hotspot of Indonesia, in SE Asia. Since, I still had 8 vacation days left and was going to be on vacation during Lunar New Year, I got to extra days to vacation, so it worked out to 14 days exactly. I met up with my friend Heidi, who headed there the week before me. The two of us did a lot in the two weeks we were there, so instead of boring you with words I will just post pictures with captions, because we alll know pictures are far more exciting to look at.
This is the first picture I took of my trip to Indonesia. Heidi and I in our hotel in Sanur, Bali. We made a pretty great travel team. This was our hotels swimming pool area. It was a sweltering hot day, as was most of the trip. Having hotel swimming pools was essential to cool off on a hot day. Indonesia had me feeling rather rich. I easily lived like a Queen there. It was Fantastic! Mike was vacationing in Indonesia as well, because his girlfriend he met online over a year ago lives in Indonesia and he was meeting her face to face for the first time. Since, he was close, Heidi and I met up with him in Kuta for a day to hang out. This is the Kuta beach, it is littered with lounge chairs, umbrellas and local people trying to sell you anything they could. Kuta beach with the sun beating down on it. Don't let the beauty of this picture fool you. The beach wasn't that nice, it was rather dirty. Another extreme on Kuta beach, surfboards. It is the most popular spot for surfing, which is why it's over populated with Australians and other foreigners. Heidi and I in front of the bomb monument. It has the name of all those who were killed during the bombing that happened in the 90's in Kuta, Indonesia. The club the bombing happened at was not replaced and the spot where it use to stand is bare, which is to the left of the picture across the street. We hung out to see the sunset over Kuta beach. It was really beautiful, but my camera didn't do a very good job of capturing just how good it looked. If you know me at all, you know I have a fetish/addiction for ice cream. My day would night have been complete without my $0.20 McDonald's ice cream cone. Not only was it delicious, it was $0.20. Now, I can say I have had McDonald's in Indonesia and my ice cream cravings were completely satisfied.
Heidi and I had to be up early on Tuesday (the 20th) to head to Gili Trawangan Island, so we headed back to Sanur to pack our things up, shower and hit the sack. The van that was coming to pick us up was about 20 minutes late, which meant we could have slept longer, but we were already up, so there was nothing we could do. The van drove us to the harbour where we would catch the fast boat to Gili T. and spend the next 5 days.
Nothing but blue blue skies and a very blue ocean ahead of us. It was absolutely breathtaking and just so relaxing to see something so stunning and peaceful looking.
Just a picture I took of the view from the harbour while we waited to board the boat. It was another beautiful day and the view was spectacular. A view out the boat window. The boat was a rather terrifying experience because when ever we hit big waves the boat literally rocked and got some air. I for sure thought we would tip a couple of times, but I had complete faith in the driver...lol! I just looked out at the beautiful scenery before me to get me through the rough ride.
We arrived safely and in one piece on Gili Trawangan. The next post will be about my 5 day adventure there. Enjoy!
