Pin-The-Tail-On-The-Donkey!!

I would just like to apologize in advance for this blog taking me so long to write. Things were hectic this week. Monday I was back with the grade 6's, which was nice because I enjoy teaching them and the grade 3's the best. The students were really excited to have me back. The first two days I was with the grade 6's and two grade grade 3 classes. I decided to award the grade 6's with tootsie roll pops for answering my introduction questions. Just like the grade 5's they all started yelling out their numbers and wanting me to choose them. I don't mind rewarding students with candy or stickers if they attempt English or are willing to speak it to me. On Tuesday I wore these rather large pair of gold earrings and in one of the grade 6 classes a boy at the front goes: "Very big earrings. They are gold." I just smiled and nodded. Then in another grade 6 class this one boy kept saying hoe pretty I was and he was saying it in Korean at first, so then Jiny told me what he was saying and then he said it in English. I blushed, smiled and said thank you. One grade 6 boy also decided to tell me that he loved me. The grade 6's are very energetic and it takes a lot to quiet them down when they aren't listening, but they are fun nonetheless. They kept asking me where I was last month because I wan't teaching them and I told them I was with grade 4 and 5. They also got to ask me any questions they wanted. They mostly asked me questions they had asked me in March when I first arrived, so I was a pro at answering. Now, on to the grade 3's. I cannot get enough of this grade. I gave them Canada stickers for answering my introduction questions. They appreciate stickers more than the older grades. They got very excited about answering when they knew I had stickers to give out. It's so hard not to pick them all to answer, but I just didn't have enough stickers. I would love to give them all something, but there are way too many students. Anyways, the grade 3's are still on the 'Happt Birthday' unit, so this week I got to introduce them to a birthday game we play back home called, 'Pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey.' I found Eyore, from Winne-the-Pooh without a tail on the internet, so I printed off a copy. Then I made two copies to pin to the blackboard. Then I printed his tail off seperately and blew it up as well. I divided each class into two teams and each student came up one at a time and with their eyes closed attempted to pin-the-tail as close to Eyore's bum as possible. The team that got it closest would get a point. The students absolutely loved this game and I had so much fun playing it with them. The grade 3's are really competitive, so they would yell at their teammates about where to pin and then if they lost they would boo the winning the team. Not even the older grades are as competitive as the third graders are. The winning team in each class kept expecting me to give them a prize, but I didn't have enough stickers with me to give to an entire team. I told them I would bring them a prize next day, so I will have to find some stickers somewhere and give them those. I doubt they will forget they are owed a prize :) Thursday was a busy day with 6 classes. Jiny told me after my first class that teacher's class was cancelled again. I was kind of irritated because they paid for the month of May and only had one class, plus I had this huge presentation of family waiting for them for weeks. After lunch, I thought I was going to have a free afternoon to watch a movie, but Jiny told me the teacher's class was back on. I was sort of relieved to finally being doing this presentation. Only 3 of the 4 teachers that were suppose to be there showed, but that is better than no class. They all had slideshows on the internet that they showed of their families. It was a good class that always lasts 20 minutes longer than it is suppose to. We get disussing our families and ourselves and lose track of time. I always give them the following weeks topic ahead of time, so they can prepare. Next weeks topic is 'Favorite Things.' I think it will be another fun and fulfilling teacher's class. My fingers are crossed it doesn't get cancelled. Anyways, This week was a short week because Friday was Memorial Day in Korea.
